What is Comprehensive Coverage?

So, what is comprehensive coverage, exactly? Comprehensive coverage pays for damage to your vehicle when that damage is not caused by a collision. It will pay out for damage up to the total value of the car at the time of the incident.

What Does Comprehensive Auto Insurance Cover?

What does comprehensive auto insurance cover? It covers the following:

• Theft of your vehicle
• Damaged caused by severe Flowood weather conditions, such as hail
• Fires and explosions
• Glass and windshield damage
• Vandalism
• Damaged caused by hitting an animal

What Does Comprehensive Insurance Not Cover?

Comprehensive insurance doesn’t cover everything. What does comprehensive insurance not cover? Here’s a list:

• Damage caused to another person’s property in an accident in which you were at fault – you will need liability insurance to cover this.
• Injuries or fatalities in an accident in which you were at fault – again, you will also need liability insurance for this.
• Collisions with another vehicle where your own vehicle is damaged – you will need Collision coverage for these types of incidents. 
• If you owe more than what the car is worth, and the car is totaled at the time of the accident, comprehensive coverage only pays for the total value of the car, not what is left on the loan. However, you can get gap insurance to cover the difference.
