There are so many fun and interesting things to do in Jackson, MS. The city of Jackson, MS is home to many wonderful museums, and whether you’re interested in art, history, or science, you’ll find a lot to marvel at and to learn from. Mississippi Civil Rights Museum

The Civil Rights Movement changed the nation, and in the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum you have the opportunity to explore the legacy of those who, in many cases, gave their lives to the cause of equal rights for all. The galleries and exhibits focus on the period from 1945 to 1976, a time when Mississippi was ground zero for the National Civil Rights Movement. A visit to this museum can be both inspiring and transformative.

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Mississippi Museum of Art

With a diverse collection that includes over 5,500 objects from some of the most important and influential artists in the country, the Mississippi Museum of Art is a must see for anyone visiting Jackson. From works by Georgia O’Keefe, Robert Henri, John Marin, George Bellows, and Andy Warhol, to The Mississippi Story collection devoted exclusively to the work of Mississippi artists, you’ll be treated to a wide variety of exquisite paintings and sculpture. There is a museum store with catalogs and fine art prints for sale, and a French-style bakery and cafe where you can enjoy pastries and croissants, as well as sandwiches, salads, and gourmet espresso and coffee beverages.

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday, Noon – 5 p.m.

Mississippi Museum of Natural Sciences

Located in LaFleur’s Bluff State Park, this spectacular museum houses over 200 living species in a 100,000 gallon aquarium network, 73,000 square feet of exhibit space which includes deer, waterfowl, fossils, and endangered species. The grounds offer an open-air amphitheater and 2.5 miles of nature trails. They also provide many educational programs and events throughout the year.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Location: 2148 Riverside Drive, Jackson, MS


Museum of Mississippi History

Providing an opportunity for visitors to explore 15,000 years of state history, the Museum of Mississippi History includes hundreds of artifacts, along with a wide range of exhibits and educational programs. Galleries include rare items dating from 1300 BC to the present. You may enter this museum as a person not particularly interested in the past, but you’ll exit a certified history buff.

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Mississippi Children’s Museum

A place where the kids can have fun, and learn at the same time, the Mississippi Children’s Museum offers an assortment of exhibits, programs, annual events, and camps. The hands-on, interactive displays are thoughtfully designed to engage young ones in a quest for knowledge, and frankly, we think the museum is just as much fun for adults as it is for children.

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday, 1 p.m. – p.m.
